Cookie policy – Hermes
Extended Cookie Policy of hermescorporate.it website
Under the EU Reg. 2016/679 of art. 13 of the Legislative Decree n. 196/03, known as the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), this policy explains what cookies are and describes the various types of cookies present on the hermescorporate.it website (hereafter referred to as the “Site”) and complements the data processing information found at the page https://hermescorporate.it/privacy-policy.
Cookies are small text files that the websites visited by the user send and save on their computer or mobile device, which are then re-transmitted to the same websites on the next visit. Thanks to cookies, the site remembers the user’s actions and preferences (such as login data, chosen language, font sizes, other display settings, etc.) so that they don’t have to be set again when the user returns to the site or navigates from one page to another.
Cookies are used to perform computer authentication, session tracking, and storing information about users’ activities accessing a site, and may also contain a unique identification code that keeps track of the user’s browsing within the site for statistical or advertising purposes. During navigation on a site, the user can also receive on their computer or mobile device cookies from websites or web servers different from the one they are visiting (so-called “third-party” cookies). Some operations could not be carried out without the use of cookies, which in some cases are technically necessary for the site to operate.
There are several types of cookies, depending on their characteristics and functions, and these can stay in the user’s computer or mobile device for different periods of time; cookies can thus be classified as:
- “session” cookies, which are deleted immediately when the browser is closed;
- “persistent” cookies, which remain in the browser for a certain period of time. They are used, for example, to recognize the device that connects to a site facilitating user authentication operations;
- “own” cookies, generated and managed directly by the operator of the website the user is browsing;
- “third-party” cookies, generated and managed by parties other than the operator of the website the user is browsing.
According to the legislation in force in Italy, the user’s express consent is not always required for the use of cookies. Specifically, “technical” cookies, i.e., those used for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication on an electronic communication network, or as strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user, do not require such consent. These are, in other words, cookies essential for the functioning of the site or necessary to carry out activities requested by the user.
Among the technical cookies, which do not require express consent for their use, the Italian Data Protection Authority (see the General Regulation “Individuazione delle modalità semplificate per l’informativa e l’acquisizione del consenso per l’uso dei cookie – 8 May 2014″) also includes:
- analytical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site,
- navigation or session cookies (to authenticate, to make a purchase, etc.),
- functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (for example, the language, the products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service rendered to them.
On the other hand, for the so-called “profiling cookies”, i.e, those aimed at creating user profiles and used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the same part within the framework of web browsing, a prior consent of the user is required.
COOKIES USED ON THE SITE
There are several types of cookies that contain different information and perform different functions (e.g., performing computer authentications, monitoring sessions, storing preferences for the sending of targeted advertising messages, etc.). Each cookie, in turn, contains different data (e.g., the name of the server it comes from, a numeric identifier, etc.). Such data may remain in the user’s device for different periods of time – a browser session, a few hours, several days, or for longer periods.
Necessary technical cookies for navigation: cookies that are necessary to navigate or to provide a service requested by the User. They are not used for further purposes. Technical cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the site. Without the use of such cookies, some operations could not be performed or would be more complex and/or less secure, hence, technical cookies are indispensable. Technical cookies do not require the user’s consent, as they are essential for the proper functioning of the site.
Third-party analytical cookies used as technical cookies: third-party analytical cookies can be equated to technical cookies only if used for site optimization purposes by the site owner itself, to collect aggregate information on the number of users and how they visit the site. When used as technical cookies and when anonymization measures prescribed by the Data Protection Authority are adopted, analytical cookies are necessary to enable the site owner to improve the functioning of the site and the user’s experience on the site.
Marketing and profiling cookies: cookies used to track the user’s navigation on the internet and create profiles on their tastes, habits, choices, etc. With these cookies, advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the user during their online navigation can be transmitted to the user’s terminal. Profiling cookies are not strictly necessary for the proper functioning of the site and, therefore, the user can decide whether to install such cookies or not. The user’s consent is required for the installation of profiling cookies, which can be expressed or revoked by the user.
